Yukon Alpine Qualifiers

The ACC Yukon Alpine Qualifiers (YAQ) is a list of objectives in the Yukon and surrounding regions. It is inspired by other ‘challenge lists’ like the ACC Vancouver Island Section – Island Qualifiers. Rather than a list of peaks, the YAQ is a list of routes or lines meant to represent the necessary skills to be a well-rounded, modern Yukon alpinist. Therefore, the list will change and grow as both the local and global communities do so as well.

The list is broken down into the following categories:

• General Mountaineering
• Alpine Touring/Ski Mountaineering
• Ice Climbing
• Traditional Rock Climbing
• Alpine Rock Climbing

Each category has four objectives. The objectives are not meant to be the ‘cutting edge’ or gnarliest possible lines in the category but rather demonstrative of moderate competency in that particular stream of alpinism. There are likely many published and unpublished routes that could fit into the categories. However, the routes were chosen for their relative popularity and ‘classic’ status.

ACC Yukon Members in Good Standing who have completed at least one route/line per category will be granted ‘YAQ Status’ and have their names placed on the website. Those who complete all objectives will be placed on a ‘YAQ Completionist List’ and added to the club ‘YAQ Plaque’.
